- 28 year old Siarra Kay Araiza, of Effingham, was arrested by the Effingham Police Department and charged with DUI-Alcohol, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. She was given notice to appear.
- 47 year old Michael Raymond Deters, of Effingham, was arrested by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department on an Effingham County warrant failure to appear attachment for Contempt.

- At 4:41 A.M. at 1805 W. Fayette a semi driven by Daniel R. Harkrider, 60, Double Oak, TX, struck a parked semi owned by California Overland LTD, Wabash, MN. No injuries and no citations.
- At 9:47 A.M. at 1200 N. Keller a vehicle driven by Georgia S. Bernal, 77, Belvidere, had just finished pumping fuel and was driving up to the building when she failed to reach the brake pedal to stop. Bernal’s vehicle struck the curb, then struck a pedestrian, Kimberly K. Rhoden, 56, Terre Haute, IN. The vehicle continued to travel, striking and damaging the Jack Flash building. Rhoden sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment. No citations.
- At 8:42 P.M. at 1701 W. Evergreen an unknown semi struck a parked semi owned by Trans Am Trucking, Olathe, KS. No injuries and no citations at this time.
April 9, 2017:
- At 1:31 A.M. at the intersection of Fayette and 4th a vehicle driven by Siarra K. Araiza, 28, Effingham, left the roadway, striking and damaging a traffic signal pole owned by the City of Effingham, as well as an Illinois Consolidated utility pole and a Mediacom box. The vehicle re-entered the roadway and continued traveling for approximately 100 feet, left the roadway again, and struck and damaged a second Illinois Consolidated utility pole. No injuries. Araiza was ticketed for Driving Under the Influence, Improper Lane Usage and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
- At 1:25 P.M. at the intersection of Ford and Oak Point a vehicle driven by Marybeth Young, 50, Cape Girardeau, MO, struck a vehicle driven by Van J. Parr, 63, Shelbyville. No injuries and no citations.

Stolen was a camera and case with accessories valued at $1,930.00, a laptop valued at $60.00, a backpack valued at $100.00, headphones valued at $20.00 and four chargers valued at $13.00 each. The rear passenger window sustained $300.00 damage during the incident.
