Charleston Police, with assistance from EIU Police, The Coles County Sheriff’s Department, The Coles County Crisis Response Team, Coles County Probation, and the Coles County State’s Attorney’s Office executed a search warrant on two apartments located at 2002 10th Street in Charleston Tuesday afternoon. Earlier that day, authorities received information that a 16-year-old wanted subject was in the 10th Street apartment building.
The juvenile was wanted on Coles County failure to appear warrants for Armed Robbery, Residential Burglary, Theft, and Battery. He was also wanted in Edgar County for leaving the scene of an accident.
Though social media, information was also obtained suggesting that the suspect may have been armed with handgun. The warrant was executed just after 3:00 p.m., but the suspect was not located. Later that evening, an anonymous tip led authorities to the Sunrise Apartments in Mattoon where the 16-year-old was apprehended. He was transported to the Coles County Jail to await a court appearance.
