(Springfield, IL) — Legislation limiting the use of “cell phone site simulators” by police in Illinois is now law after being signed by the governor on Friday. Senate Bill 2343, which takes effect in 2017, says data picked up by police using the sites that doesn’t concern someone under investigation must be deleted within 24 hours. The common brand name for cell site simulators is Stingray.
