Effingham Post 120 went 2-1 over the weekend at the District Tournament and will face Teutopolis in the Championships this week. Effingham will play Teutopolis Tuesday at 6 PM. If Effingham wins they will play again on Wednesday. If Teutopolis wins the tournament is over because Effingham already has one loss in the double elimination tournament. Below is a recap of each game Effingham played in this weekend.
Game 1
Effingham beat Newton Post 20 8-6
Effingham got a big 4 run inning in the fifth to beat Newton Post 20 8-6.
Newton scored first with two runs in the top of the first. Effingham came back with two runs in the second. Newton added a run in the top of the fifth to make it 3-2. Effingham scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-3. Newton scored a run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to tie the game at 6. Effingham scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the win.
Reed Schafer got the win in relief. Effingham starter Kyle Bourgeois gave up 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out 3 and walking 2 over 6 and 2/3 innings. Charlie Thoele took the loss in relief for Newton. Nate Meinhart was the starter. Meinhart gave up 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 4 over 5 innings.
Game 2
Effingham falls to Teutopolis Post 924
Effingham was down 4-0 after one inning and could never come back falling to Teutopolis Post 924 11-7.
Teutopolis struck first with four runs in the bottom of the first. Effingham got one run in the second and two in the third to make it 4-3. Teutopolis added a run in the bottom of the third, a run in the bottom of the fifth, two runs in the bottom of the sixth, and three runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it 11-3. Effingham scored four runs in the top of the ninth to make it 11-7.
Brock Bueker got the win for Teutopolis. Bueker gave up 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out and walking 5 batters over 6 innings. Hudson Graham took the loss. Graham gave up 8 runs (only 2 earned runs) on 9 hits while striking out 2 and walking 3 over 5 and 1/3 innings.
Game 3
Effingham beats Mt. Vernon Post 141 6-5
Effingham was down but kept fighting back and were able to get the walkoff winner in the 6-5 win.
Mt. Vernon got off to a hot start scoring four runs in the first and one in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Effingham came back and scored three runs in the third. Effingham then scored three runs in the ninth, including the walkoff two run single by Lane Koenig, to win 6-5.
Collin Smith took the loss in relief. Mt. Vernon starter Walker Brookhouse gave up 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 and walking 7 over 7 innings. Lane Koenig got the win in relief. Koenig gave up no runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 over 7 innings. Brandon Puckett was the starter. Puckett gave up 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 3 over 2 innings.
