One was injured attempting to traverse the Canadian National Railroad where it intersects with Jefferson Avenue in Effingham at 4:02 a.m. Friday morning.
34-year-old John D. Burcham, of Effingham, drove around the activated railroad crossing gates and was struck by an oncoming train. The collision forced Burcham’s to spin around and damage a building owned by Brian Wick of Effingham.
Burcham was injured and transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham. He was ticketed for Driving Under the Influence and Disobeying a Railroad Signal.
