The Diamondbacks did something that hasn’t been done since July of last year, they beat Jake Arrieta 3-2.
The Diamondbacks avoided the sweep by getting on the board first. Tomás had a 2 run RBI double in the second to make it 2-0 Diamondbacks. Jake Arrieta had an RBI double in the bottom of the second to make it 2-1. Goldschmidt had an RBI single in the fifth to make it 3-1. Báez had a home run in the bottom of the sixth but that was all the Cubs could muster. Manager Joe Maddon got ejected in the seventh inning for arguing a check swing.
Jake Arrieta took the loss falling to 9-1 on the season. Arrieta pitched 5 innings giving up 9 hits and 3 runs. Arrieta did strike out 12 batters. Corbin got the win moving to 3-5 on the season. Corbin pitched 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and striking out 5.
The Cubs open a series against the Phillies tonight at 6 PM.
