According to a press release from St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham, chronic wounds impact 6.7 million people in the United States. That is why HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospital is participating in the third Annual Wound Care Awareness Week beginning on Monday and ending on Friday. Chronic wounds can stem from conditions such as diabetes or obesity.
During the week, directors at St. Anthony’s will educate the physicians, patients, and the general public about chronic wounds and advanced wound solutions.
“We work to educate community physicians about which of their patients can benefit from advanced wound care, and then provide coordinated care to heal that patient’s wounds.” Said D. Scott Covington, MD, FACTS and Chief Medial Director for Healogics.
St. Anthony’s Wound Healing Center is to help people with wounds that have not improved with traditional methods of treatment and has been opened since 2010. More information about the Wound Healing Center Can be found on their website.
