The Cardinals struck first but it wasn’t enough as they dropped game 1 against the Nationals, 2-1.
The Cardinals got on the board first with a home run by Diaz in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. Washington came back with a Bryce Harper home run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 1. Danny Espinosa homered in the bottom of the seventh to give Washington a 2-1 lead. Washington would hold on to get the win.
Ross got the win giving up 1 run on 6 hits. He also struck out 4 while walking one. Leake took the loss despite only giving up 2 runs on 7 hits. The loss drops Leake to 3-4 on the season.
