Decatur, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Friday, September 25th (aka 9-2-5) will officially be recognized as Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Day in the City of Decatur, celebrating the power of books, early childhood literacy and a community coming together to invest in its youngest residents.
The proclamation comes at a meaningful time as communities across the country honor Dolly Parton’s lifelong commitment to children and literacy. The Dollywood Foundation has designated September 25 as ‘Give Like Dolly Day’ encouraging people to make a difference in the lives of children by supporting local Imagination Library programs.
At the heart of ‘Give Like Dolly Day’ are Local Imagination Library Partners like United Way of Decatur & Mid Illinois who help carry Dolly’s mission forward in our community. Dolly often called local Imagination Library Partners the “true heroes” of her program. They raise funds, build community support and work tirelessly to ensure children from birth to age five in their communities can receive a free, high-quality book mailed directly to their home each month.

About United Way of Decatur & Mid-Illinois involvement with Dolly Parton Imagination Library –
UWDMI funds the books and postage, manages the local enrollment and registration process, and oversees the program to make sure those books reach the children in our community each month. So while Dolly Parton gave us the vision, United Way of Decatur & Mid-Illinois is investing the resources and doing the work to make that vision a reality for children right here in Decatur in addition to Moultrie, Piatt, DeWitt, Shelby and Christian Counties.
