Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- In the wake of the devastating tornadoes that impacted communities across Southeastern Illinois, the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation’s Southeastern Illinois Disaster Relief Fund is already making a meaningful difference for families and communities facing the challenges of recovery.
One of the first organizations to receive support from the fund, the Teutopolis Civic Club, has been working tirelessly to address urgent needs throughout the Teutopolis Unit 50 area.
Since receiving disaster relief funding, the Teutopolis Civic Club has helped provide meals and essential supplies to affected areas, coordinated large-scale volunteer cleanup efforts, and distributed direct financial assistance to families impacted by the storms.
On June 20, the organization led cleanup efforts at the home of Doug and Susan Krone, bringing together approximately 250 volunteers ranging in age from 8 to more than 70 years old.
Volunteers included local businesses, school organizations, youth groups, farmers, neighbors, friends, and community members from throughout the region. The effort demonstrated the remarkable generosity and resilience of southeastern Illinois communities.
In addition to coordinating volunteer efforts, the Teutopolis Civic Club helped secure food, snacks, and water for volunteers and provided much-needed supplies including gloves, fuel containers, snacks, water, and gift cards for affected residents.
Most notably, on June 22, the organization distributed $1,000 checks to 16 families within the Teutopolis Unit 50 geographic area who were impacted by the tornadoes.
The Foundation’s ability to respond quickly was made possible through gifts from generous local donors and support from the Ralph and June Kidwell Endowment. Together, these charitable resources enabled the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation to provide funding to the Teutopolis Civic Club, helping ensure assistance reached affected families when they needed it most.
“The financial support received through the Southeastern Illinois Disaster Relief Fund has been instrumental in helping local families during this difficult time,” said Jerry Runde, Treasurer of the Teutopolis Civic Club. “The needs continue to evolve each day, and this funding has allowed us to respond quickly and provide assistance where it is needed most.”
The Southeastern Illinois Disaster Relief Fund was established to support disaster response and recovery efforts throughout the region. Donations to the fund help provide resources and assistance to individuals, families, and communities affected by natural disasters.
“One of the strengths of a community foundation is the ability to connect generous donors with trusted local organizations that can quickly put resources to work,” said Alex Pleasant, President & CEO of the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation. “The Teutopolis Civic Club has demonstrated exactly how local leadership and community support can make an immediate impact for families facing unexpected hardship.”
As recovery efforts continue, additional needs are expected to emerge across affected communities. The Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation encourages individuals, businesses, and organizations to support ongoing relief efforts through the Southeastern Illinois Disaster Relief Fund.
