Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham City Plan Commission is weighing a request to allow Oxford House Volta, a recovery residence on West Virginia Avenue, with discussion stretching late into Tuesday’s meeting.
Attorney Sarah Jane Hunt, representing Oxford House, emphasized that the home is specifically for eight adults with Substance Use Disorder who cannot safely live at home while in recovery. Hunt described strict rules, including mandatory sobriety and participation in recovery programs. City Planner Greg Koester expressed concern over limited parking and whether adequate living space exists for all residents. The commission opted to postpone a decision, extending the hearing another month to review these concerns more closely.
In other business, officials recommended approval for a lot split in the MacGraphics Subdivision. The commission also reorganized leadership, reelecting Brian Hayes as chairman, appointing Andrew Grunloh as vice-chairman, and welcoming Don Bushue as a new member, with one seat still open.
