Clay County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Clay County Coroner, Bryce C. Henry reports that on March 29, 2026 at 6:43PM, emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of Ironwood Rd and US Highway 50 for a two vehicle crash involving a semi and a side by side. The driver of the side by side was transported to Clay County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Coroner Henry has identified the driver as 15 year–old Owen W. Bailey of Cisne. It is believed that Bailey was traveling westbound on the shoulder of US Highway 50 and was attempting to make a left–hand turn onto Ironwood Rd. when for unknown reasons pulled out in front of a eastbound semi, causing the semi to strike the side by side.
The accident is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police Police and the Clay County Coroner’s Office. Agencies assisting with the crash were Xenia Fire Protection District, Clay County Ambulance Service, Clay County Sheriffs Office, Illinois State Police, Flora ESDA, Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Clay County Coroner’s Office.
Coroner Henry extends his thoughts and prayers to the Bailey family and all of those affected by this tragedy.
