Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The drop in temperature over the last 24 hours did not deter local citizens from honoring our veterans this Veterans’ Day.
The Veterans’ Day Ceremony at the Courthouse Lawn Memorial drew lots of people out to brave the colder weather and wind to let our veterans know they are appreciated.
Dave Althoff, Commander of the D. A. V., was MC of the Ceremonies. He introduces Reverend Mike Burdick of St. John Lutheran Church for the prayer.
Charlie and Bob McWhorter raised the colors, and the anthem was sang by Pat and Julie Zuber.
Greg Sapp also gave a short speech thanking veterans, and reminding everyone that US Navy Machinist’s Mate First Class Keith Tipsword’s remains were brought back home after decades of being lost. The funeral services are set for 11AM on Tuesday, November 15th.
Mike Burdick then came back to the podium for benediction. The 21 gun salute went off after that led by Sergeant In Arms Bill Copple.
