Effingham played for a Regional title Friday, while St. Anthony and Teutopolis were both in Sectional championships.
Teutopolis was the lone winner of the three local teams, advancing to the Super Sectional with a 58-54 win over Lawrenceville. Teutopolis had three players in double figures. Michael Drees, Kyle Smith, and Brant Bueker each had 11 for the Shoes. Harry Loeb was the leading scorer for Lawrenceville with 19. Lawrenceville’s season ends with a record of 28-3. Teutopolis will face Breese Central on Tuesday in the Super Sectional. Teutopolis and Breese Central met twice during the regular season, with the teams splitting the matchups.
Effingham’s season came to an end with a 73-55 loss to Champaign Central. The Hearts led 14-10 after one quarter, and trailed 30-24 at the half. Champaign Central used a big 3rd quarter, outscoring Effingham 25-12, to propel them to the win. Champaign Central was led by Sam Lessaris, who scored 23 points off the bench. Tim Finke also had 16 for the Maroons. Effingham was led by Grant Wolfe’s 25 points.The Hearts season ends with a record of 20-9.
St. Anthony’s season also ended Friday, losing to Patoka 64-58. Drew Gibson was St. Anthony’s leading scorer with 21 points. Nick Grunloh and Cade Walsh were also in double figures with 13 and 12 points each. Jered Cain was Patoka’s top scorer with 27 points. St. Anthony’s season ends with a record of 21-11.
