WHAT:
- Four Vehicle Personal Injury Traffic Crash
WHERE:
- Interstate 57 southbound near milepost 124, Marion County
WHEN:
- August 16, 2022 at approximately 11:09 a.m.
VEHICLES:
- Unit 1- 2000 Black Freightliner Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer
- Unit 2- 2013 Silver Subaru Brz
- Unit 3- 2013 White Mack Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer
- Unit 4- 2008 White Peterbilt Truck Tractor Semi Trailer
DRIVERS:
- Unit 1- Kiane J. Bridgeforth, 41-year-old male from Memphis, TN – Transported by AirEvac to regional hospital with serious injuries.
- Unit 2- Brandon M. Clifton, 45-year-old male from Nashua, NH – Transported by AirEvac to a regional hospital with injuries.
- Unit 3- Terry E. Patty, 64-year-old male from Louisville, TN – Uninjured
- Unit 4- Stephen W. Wickline, 55-year-old male from Sunman, IN – Uninjured
PASSENGERS:
- Unit 1- Mircale N. Givson, 29-year-old female from Tennessee – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
- Unit 2- Shealy B. Clifton, 18-year-old male from Nashua, NH – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
- Unit 4- Teresa M. Brown, 45-year-old female from Sunman, TN – Uninjured
PRELIMINARY:
- A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Units 1, 2, 3, and 4 were all traveling southbound on Interstate 57 near milepost 124 in the right lane. Units 2, 3 and 4 were slowing due to a backup in traffic from a previous crash approximately one mile south of this location. Unit 1 failed to reduce speed while approaching the slowed traffic. Unit 1 then struck Unit 2 in the rear and Unit 2 was pushed off the roadway to the right and came to rest in the ditch. Unit 1 then continued forward and struck the rear of Unit 3. Unit 1 then pushed the trailer of Unit 3 off the roadway to the right, Unit 1 then traveled under the trailer of Unit 3 ripping the cab off of the frame and trapping the driver inside. As a result of Unit 1 striking Unit 3, Unit 3 was pushed forward into the trailer of Unit 4.
CHARGES:
- The driver of Unit 1 was cited for Commercial Driver’s License Suspended/Revoked and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
