Three Injured in Two Vehicle Accident in Cumberland County Friday

Cumberland County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12

WHAT: Two Vehicle Traffic Crash with Injuries

WHERE: Interstate 70 eastbound at Milepost 112, Cumberland County

WHEN: July 8, 2022 at 8:12 a.m.

VEHICLES: Unit 1 – White Freightliner Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer

Unit 2 – Western Star Truck Tractor with Auto Transport Trailer                                         

DRIVERS: Unit 1 – Gurjit Singh, 38-year-old male of Ozone Park, NY – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.                                   

Unit 2 – Antoine D. Edwards, a 26-year-old male of Fresno, CA – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

PASSENGER: Unit 1 – Satnam Singh, a 34-year-old male of Fresno, CA – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 near Milepost 112.  Unit 2 was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 at the same location. For an unknown reason, Unit 1 left the roadway to the left, crossing the median.  Unit 1 drove into the westbound lanes and collided with Unit 2. Unit 1 overturned on its right side. All parties involved were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  No further information will be disseminated.

CHARGES: The driver of Unit 1 was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash and Improper Lane Use.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
