Illinois State Police Investigates Fatal Douglas County Crash

Douglas County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by the Illinois State Police

District 10:

WHAT:                      Single Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE:                   Interstate 57 southbound at milepost 213.5, Douglas County

WHEN:                      May 30, 2022 at approximately 10:19 p.m.

VEHICLE:                Unit 1 – 2014 White Ford Escape

DRIVER:                   Unit 1 – Craig L. Simon II, 30-year-old male from Herrin, IL – Deceased

PASSENGER:           Unit 1 – Jackie L. Henson, 36-year-old female from Herrin, IL – Transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

PRELIMINARY:     A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling southbound on Interstate 57 at milepost 213.5 in Douglas County.  For unknown reasons, Unit 1 left the roadway to the left and entered the center median.  Unit 1 then rolled over multiple times ejecting both the driver and passenger.  The passenger of Unit 1 was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.  The driver of Unit 1 was pronounced deceased on scene by the Douglas County Coroner.
