
Champaign County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 10:
WHAT:
- Two Unit Fatal Traffic Crash
WHERE:
- Illinois Route 130 at Champaign 700N, Champaign County
WHEN:
- April 29, 2022 at approximately 4:05 p.m.
VEHICLES:
- Unit 1- 2004 Black Chevrolet Truck
- Unit 2- 2002 White International Truck
DRIVERS:
- Unit 1- Justin Hottman, 39-year-old male from Tolono, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
- Unit 2- Tommy Tingley, 70-year-old male from Sidney, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
PASSENGER:
- Unit 1- 50-year-old male from Penfield, IL – Deceased
PRELIMINARY:
- A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling north on Illinois Route 130 just north of 700N in Champaign County. Unit 2 was traveling south at the same location. The driver of Unit 1 attempted to pass another northbound vehicle and struck Unit 2 head-on in the southbound lane. Unit 1 then left the roadway to the left and struck a ditch. Unit 2 overturned in the southbound lane. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 drivers were transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Unit 1 passenger was pronounced deceased on scene by the Champaign County Coroner. The name of the deceased will be released by the Coroner’s Office. The roadway was closed for approximately 6 hours during the crash investigation. This crash is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
CHARGES:
- Unit 1 driver was cited for Improper Lane Usage.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
