
Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Illinois State Police District 10 released the following:
WHAT:
- Two Vehicle Injury Traffic Crash
WHERE:
- Interstate 57 Northbound at Milepost 208.5, Douglas County
WHEN:
- Jan. 19, 2021 at approximately 7:34 a.m.
VEHICLES:
- Unit 1- 2012 White Nissan Rogue
- Unit 2- 2013 Black Chrysler 300
DRIVERS:
- Unit 1- Lisa Hanken, 36-year-old female from Humbolt, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
- Unit 2- Mary Jenkins, 45-year-old female from Charleston, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
PRELIMINARY:
- A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 2 was northbound in the right lane of Interstate 57 at milepost 208.5 in Douglas County. Unit 1 was traveling a short distance behind Unit 2. Unit 2 slowed due to a rapidly deflating tire and attempted to maneuver to the shoulder of the roadway. Unit 1 struck Unit 2 in the rear. Unit 1 came to rest in the median and caught fire. Unit 2 ran off the right side of the road and came to rest in the ditch. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 drivers were transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The roadway was reduced to one lane during the crash investigation. The roadway was open at approximately 9:00 a.m..
CHARGES:
- Unit 1 driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
