WATSON, IL-(Effingham Radio)- On Saturday at 12:30pm, the Watson Fire Department was called to a reported structure fire at 214 Sierra Avenue in Watson.
According to a press release from the Watson Fire Department, the caller, Colby Higgs, reported that the vent fan in his bathroom was on fire and that flames were showing.
The release states that the first arriving fire crews reported light smoke showing from the south eaves of the residence.
Higgs reported to the crews that he had used a fire extinguisher on the fire prior to their arrival.
The fire crews began working to extinguish the fire and reported that the fire had extended into the attic of the home, causing damage to the trusses above the fire.
The Shumway Fire Department was initially called for mutual aid, but were disregarded while in route as the fire was knocked down.
At this time, the value of the damage and loss of contents is unknown.
The press release states that while the origin of the fire was the vent fan, after an investigation and due to damage, the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
