VANDALIA, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Why are Illinois students not given the same level of security and protection that Illinois lawmakers enjoy at the Capitol?
Or, the level of security provided as county courthouses or sports stadiums?
Legislation allowing schools to arm personnel to prevent shootings like the one in Parkland, Florida has been introduced in the Illinois Senate.
State Senator Kyle McCarter is the sponsor of Senate Bill 3609
McCarter says Gun-Free School Zone signs are not a deterrent, but a direct response to a shooter would be.
Senator McCarter says he introduced the legislation because the issue is being debated at the local and national level.
And, it deserves the attention of Illinois lawmakers, which he points out are protected at the Capitol by armed guards among other security measures.
Senate Bill 3609 has not yet been assigned to a committee for a hearing.
