VANDALIA, IL -(Effingham Radio)- The Vandalia City Council approved the purchase of a new police vehicle during its meeting on Monday night.
At the March 19 meeting, Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray presented the board with quotes for a few vehicles that he had found.
On Monday night, a quote from Arthur Young for a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV Police Interceptor was presented for a vote.
The quote was for $36,980 as well as $7,220 from Whiteside Communications for equipping the new vehicle.
Mayor Rick Gottman informed the board that the police budget would cover all but $3000 of the purchase.
It was asked what the purpose was to going with a four-wheel drive vehicle and Ray explained the reasoning.
The purchase of the Tahoe was approved by a unanimous 7-0 vote.
Also at the meeting, during the Mayor’s report, Mayor Gottman informed the council that the fire department had found a rescue truck in Virginia that was about $20,000 cheaper than the one it had previously found.
The new truck presented to the mayor is cheaper as it is not equipped with as many features as the previous truck which Keith Meadows says the department is not in need of all those features at this time making this vehicle a better option than the previously found, more expensive vehicle.
Gottman also stated the 2005 model truck also has only 9,900 miles on it at this time.
A motion to approve paying the 5% down on the vehicle so that the fire department could go down to Virginia and check out the vehicle was unanimously approved.
