Two people were injured in an accident that occurred two miles south of Salem on Monday morning.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred on I-57 northbound at 5:40am. The report states that a vehicle driven by 20 year old, Antario J Miller, of Cleveland, MS was traveling northbound on I-57 at milepost 114. At that time, the vehicle left the west side of the roadway. Miller then over-corrected, reentering the northbound lanes. The vehicle then left the roadway to the west again and struck a guardrail before crossing the northbound lanes and striking the side of the bridge. The vehicle then came to a rest. Miller and a passenger, 20 year old, Roshelle L Forte, of Greenville, MS were injured and taken to Salem County Hospital for treatment.
Both Miller and Forte were issued citations. Miller was cited for improper lane usage, failure to wear a seatbelt, possession of under 10 grams of cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Forte was cited for failure to wear a seatbelt and possession of under 10 grams of cannabis.
