(Springfield, IL) — Illinois’ treasurer is reminding parents that they can’t use Illinois’ pre-paid tuition program for elementary or high schools. Treasurer Mike Frerichs yesterday said that Bright Start, the state’s 529 plan, is only for college. The new federal tax reform plan allows parents in other states to use prepaid tuition programs for private K through 12 schools. Frerichs said Illinois’ tax law, however, does not.
