Two people were injured in an accident that occurred on I-57 southbound in Marion County at 2:50am on Saturday.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, 33 year old, Shawn Stanford, of Woodridge was traveling southbound on I-57 when he dozed off and ran into the center median. Stanford woke up, overcorrected the vehicle, and re-entered the roadway, overturning one full rotation. The vehicle came to a rest on its wheels on the right shoulder of I-57 southbound. Stanford and his passenger, 34 year old, Charita Lawson were taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment of lacerations sustained in the accident. The couples three children, a 2 year old, 3 year old, and 7 year old, were taken to the hospital as well but were uninjured.
Shawn Stanford was cited for improper lane usage and driving while license is suspended.
