The Vandalia Police Department is investigating the theft of 2 vehicles in town over the weekend, along with one of those vehicles crashing into a Vandalia Police Squad Car.
Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray reports that early on Sunday morning, it was reported that there was a crash in the 100 block of North Burtschi Street. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a 2010 Lincoln MKS had struck a parked 2013 Vandalia Police Car. The driver of the of Lincoln had fled the scene and the vehicle had been reported as stolen from the 2000 block of West Fillmore Street sometime during the overnight hours.
Then, later that morning, it was reported to the Vandalia Police Department that a 2006 GMC truck was stolen from the 100 block of North 8th Street sometime after 1:30 am. Chief Ray says the truck was found in the 600 block of North Coles Street with a flat tire and damage to the front wheel. Chief Ray adds that all the vehicles were towed for evidence processing and due to damage. The case remains under investigation by the Vandalia Police Department. And, Chief Ray reminds citizens not to leave their keys and valuables inside unoccupied vehicles.
