The US Army Corps of Engineers are expecting Lake Shelbyville to crest today.
Due to the recent heavy rains that came through the area, high water conditions have been reported at Lake Shelbyville. When the water level was measured on Tuesday, May 9th, the level was 11.39 feet above the normal summer pool, 599.7 feet NVGD (National Gedetic Vertical Datum). The Lake is expected to crest at 612.5 feet NVGD.
The rising waters have effected areas around the Lake. While boat launch areas have remained opened with the exception of Whitley Creek, all secondary boats ramps have been closed. Additionally, trails have been closed including the Chief Illini Trail, Coon Creek Nature Trail, and Okaw Bluff Trail.
