Located south of Bob’s Salvage on Banker Street in Effingham, the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener Community and Pollinator Garden is now open.
This is the fifth year that the garden has been opened. With land donated from the Passalacqua family, the Community Garden is a joint project between the U of I extension, City of Effingham, Effingham Park District, and the Illinois Farmers Union. Individuals that express interest in participating in the garden must fill out the 2017 registration packet available at the U of I Extension Office, Effingham Park District Office, or the Effingham City Hall Tourism Department,
Master Gardener, Linda Heynen stated, “This year we would like for everyone to consider planting an extra row of vegetables for the hungry in our community. Produce raised can be donated to any of our local food pantries for those less fortunate”.
The garden will remain open until November 1st.
