The Effingham County Health Department is requesting a larger budget from the County Board for FY17. This after warnings from County Tax and Finance Committee Chairman Rob Arnold that tough budget decisions are ahead for Effingham County.
Despite the tight budget, Arnold said that he supports expanding Health Department Operations in an effort to make the county more “forward thinking” when it comes to public health. Health Department Director Jeff Workman said that there’s much more that his office could be offering the county.
While accessibility is an area the health department is looking to improve, emergency preparedness is also a high priority. The department is constantly seeking volunteers with, or without, medical experience to join the county’s Medical Reserve Corps.
Volunteers do not need medical experience to apply. The Effingham County Health Department can be reached at 217-342-9237.
