Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham County is moving ahead with a major change in how public transportation is managed across the CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation service area. Shelby County had previously served as the lead county for the seven-county system, but those duties have now shifted to Effingham County.
Kelly Lockhart, who had overseen Effingham County’s transportation program, will now administer the broader regional system covering Effingham and six other counties. The County Board set compensation at $2500 per month. The service will also begin operating under the name Central Illinois Public Transportation.
Board members approved service contracts with Shelby County Community Services and Clay County Rehabilitation. They also discussed giving the County Board chairman and the Program Compliance Oversight Monitor authority over the transportation program, though final language will first go to committee.
The board also heard concerns from residents about data centers, approved several appointments, funding requests, employee programs, and road-use plans tied to a proposed solar project.
