Effingham traveled up to Mattoon to square off with the Green Wave and the Hearts would come on a happy bus ride home with a 34-0 victory.
Mattoon would start out the game on a long 12 play drive only to see the drive stall out and end in a Connor Simmons interception. Effingham would get the ball and go on a long drive of their own only difference was the Hearts would finish off their drive with six. Evan Waymouth, filling in once again at starting tailback, would punctuate a 14 play drive punching it in from eight yards out to make it 6-0.
Mattoon next possession went three and out, Effingham would take over and would once again go on a long 12 play drive and score again. This time QB Tanner Pontious would sneak it in from right at the goal line to make it 13-0. Both teams would trade turnover on downs and punts to keep the score 13-0.
Effingham executed on another interception, this time by Jack Harper, taking over in great field position deep in Mattoon territory already. Pontious would find Colton Loy from seven yards out to extend the lead to 20-0. Waymouth would score his second TD of the night just before the third quarter would end to make it 27-0.
Effingham final score would came on another turnover on downs, taking advantage of another short field. Weldon Dunston would come in relief at tailback and score from five yards out to finish the scoring 34-0.
Effingham picks up back to back wins to improve to 2-2 and 2-1 in the Apollo. Mattoon drops to 1-3 and 1-2 in the Apollo. Effingham returns home next week for a matchup with Taylorville and Mattoon travels to Collinsville.
