Altamont traveled to Neoga on Monday night in a rematch of the NTC Tournament Championship game from 9 days ago. On that night the game needed double overtime. No overtime was needed on this night thanks to Skylie Klien.
The game started in Neoga’s favor however with a balanced scoring attack with five different players scoring. Sydney Richards and Avery Fearday led the way with four from each. While the only points Altamont could muster was Grace Nelson’s six . Neoga would have the 17-6 lead after one.
Richards would haul down a ton of rebounds and continue her scoring onslaught, scoring six in the quarter. While Altamont had a balanced scoring attack this time around. Getting two points a piece from Grunloh, Peyton & Kylie Osteen, Klien and Reardon. Altamont would chip into the lead despite going 0-19 from beyond the arc. The big storyline for Neoga was all the missed close opportunities and Haylee Campbell in foul trouble. Neoga had the 29-21 lead at the half.
Altamont would finally get it going from beyond the arc with a couple minutes into the half, Nelson would make a three to ignite a Altamont run. Nelson, Kylie Osteen would splash home threes and Peyton Osteen hit back to back threes to pull Altamont within two by quarters end. Richards would continue her great game to keep Neoga in front, scoring eight in the quarter Neoga would lead 40-38.
The game would eventually get tied up for the first time since the first quarter at 46. From there the game would go back and fourth for a bit. Neoga stretched out their led but Altamont would never go completely away.
Peyton Osteen, Klien and Nelson would hit threes along the way. Nelson would make some free throws to tie the game. With the game tied at 57, Neoga would turn the ball over and the teams would trade timeouts to set up a final play. With 9.1 seconds left Altamont would inbound the ball to Nelson, with the defense crashing down on her and who would blame them. Nelson would find Klien open underneath and Klien would convert on the layup and get fouled to give Altamont their first lead 59-57. Klien would miss the and 1 free throw but no matter Peyton Osteen would grab and hold on to the rebound as time expired to give Altamont the win.
Altamont improves to 14-13 and 5-3 in the NTC. Indians are scheduled to back in action weather permitting on Thursday traveling to Centralia to take on Christ Our Rock Lutheran.
Neoga falls to 21-6 and 5-2 in the NTC.
