Altamont traveled to Cumberland on Tuesday and came away with the 41-32 victory.
The game started out like an old fashioned boxing match with each teams feeling each other out. It would be a few minutes until either team got on the scoreboard. Pirates got on the scoreboard then Altamont came out swinging and went on a run. The Indians closed out the quarter on a huge run, a couple of buckets by Mason Robinson and threes by Noah Klimpel to lead 16-2 after one.
The not to be out done Cumberland opened the second quarter knocking down their shots while the Indians went cold. As Altamont only scored one field goal by Klimpel and it was Trevin Magee for the Pirates, who scored seven in the quarter to cut the lead to one 18-17 at halftime.
To start the third quarter Klimpel hit a couple more threes and game one hero Eric Kollmann put in five, to extend Altamont’s lead to 31-24 after three quarter.
The fourth quarter was won by Cumberland and they cut the lead to eight at one point. Ultimately the comeback could not be completed as Altamont made did just enough by making their free throws to close the game out.
Altamont improves 2-0 on the season and are back in action on Friday at the first home game of the year for homecoming against Vandalia.
Cumberland falls to 2-2 on the season.
Altamont would win the junior varsity contest as well 59-12.
