Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham City Council approved a series of ordinances during Tuesday’s meeting, including an agreement connected to the proposed $4 million sale of the existing convention center. The city has engaged Bernardi Securities for financing, with payments expected from the local district and backed by general funds. Officials plan to lease the property to Effingham Hospitality under a separate agreement for future operations.
Council also approved options to purchase real estate from D and A Farms on Ford Avenue if the property is not developed within 18 months, and property near West Rickelman Avenue, East 1600th Avenue, and North Fourth Street for $30,000 per acre, plus $15,000 for an easement.
Another ordinance authorizes the sale of 511 West Edgar to Salt Creek Custom Homes and Timber Framing for $5,000, with plans for a four-bedroom home.
The city also recognized Treasurer Bridget Polk’s finance certification, introduced new paid-on-call firefighters and an auxiliary EMA member, and honored EHS sophomore Bryden Kade for performing CPR.
