WHAT:
- Two Vehicle Personal Injury Traffic Crash
WHERE:
- Interstate 57 Southbound at Milepost 158, Effingham County
WHEN:
- Dec. 16, 2020 at 7:08 a.m.
VEHICLES:
- Unit 1- 1995 Turquoise Chevrolet Truck
- Unit 2- 2005 Red Chevrolet Truck
DRIVERS:
- Unit 1- Becky Pizzo, 48-year-old female from Lakewood, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries.
- Unit 2- Wendy Kerkhove, 42-year-old female from Lafayette, IN – Uninjured
PASSENGERS:
- Unit 1- Edward Barrett, 66-year-old male from Shelbyville, IL – Uninjured
- Unit 2- Mary Terry, 73-year-old female from Lafayette, IN – Uninjured
- Unit 2- Henry Kern, 46-year-old male from Pigeon, MO – Uninjured
PRELIMINARY:
- A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling south on Interstate 57 near milepost 158 in Effingham County. The driver of Unit 1 ran off the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail. Unit 1 then spun back onto the roadway and came to rest facing northbound in the southbound lane. Unit 2 was traveling south on Interstate 57 and struck the front of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 1 was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of Unit 2 and all passengers of both Unit 1 and Unit 2 were uninjured.
CHARGES:
- Unit 1 driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and for Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
