MARION COUNTY, IL-(Effingham Radio)- One person was injured in an accident that occurred in Marion County on Monday night.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred on Main Street, just north of E Base Line Road, in Walnut Hill at 10:15pm.
The report states that a vehicle driven by 48 year old, Reuben A Gardet, of Centralia was traveling westbound on Main Street.
The vehicle then crossed into the eastbound lane and exited the roadway, striking a ditch, and becoming airborne.
The vehicle then collided with a large tree and came to a rest on its top.
Gardet was extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel and was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Centralia by Life Star Ambulance.
He was then transferred to a helicopter and was airlifted to St Louis University Hospital.
Gardet was cited for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to wear a seat belt, expired registration, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
