It was a come from behind win for the Pirates on Friday night against Oakwood. Cumberland took a 7-6 lead early in the first quarter on a 66 yard touchdown pass from Gabe Hatfill to Blayne Donsbach, however, Oakwood would respond to make it 13-6 after the first quarter. Cumberland then took a 21-13 lead in the second quarter on a 15 yard catch from Kade Warner, Oakwood would score to take the 25-21 lead into the half. Cumberland at one point trailed 38-27 and 46-34 but kept fighting back. With 8:53 left in the game Wyatt Brant had a 80 yard touchdown run to make it 46-41 Oakwood. The Cumberland defense would make a big stop and a mishandled punt made it Cumberland ball on the 20 yard line. Brandt would run it in again from two yards out to give Cumberland the 49-46 win.
Cumberland is now 2-0 on the season and will host Arcola next Friday.
