Folks here’s a VERY special mix of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA”. I used this song as the closing song for my Show Close today for the 4th of July. There are two links. The first link is the entire Show Close I did today and I would love for everyone to listen to it as it is VERY pertinent to our 4th of July holiday. It closes out with the special mix of the Lee Greenwood song. If you’re in a hurry right now and you just want to hear the special mix of the song you can click on the 2nd link.
This mix was produced in March 2003 by my dear friend John McGleam just as the war began. I told him what I wanted to do and he did it fantastically. I had just started in radio and my boss at the time informed me I didn’t know enough about production to even think about producing a mixed song and laughed at me. When I told John what he had said to me, he was not happy. We were on our back from a rally to honor our Military that was held on the courthouse lawn here in Effingham and he said, “Let’s go into the Production Room. We’re going to do this right now!” My daughter was with me. Of course. She was always with me. So we used her as the voice of the child. She was seven years old at the time. I’m the voice of the mother. A young lady that worked at the station, Heather Mathias, is the voice of the wife and the voice of the soldier is the man who was our boss at the time. This song has been played hundreds of times at so many different functions honoring our soldiers and veterans that I couldn’t even begin to name a portion of them. That touches my heart in a way I couldn’t begin to describe. Always remember folks…Freedom isn’t free. God Bless our Soldiers. And God Bless America.
