(Springfield, IL) — Elementary schools kids in Illinois are going to get plenty of practice with their handwriting. The Illinois Senate on Wednesday overrode Governor Rauner, and approved a cursive mandate for students. Supporters say cursive helps with brain development and never goes out of style. Critics say almost two thirds of kids in Illinois are behind in reading the printed word, and there’s no need to waste time teaching cursive.
