Twenty local businesses participated in the 4th Annual Chili Fest in Downtown Effingham Friday night. The annual event is organized by the Effingham Central Business group as a chance for area businesses to show off their chili skills, and other services. A large crowd gathered to sample chili, listen to live music, and enjoy downtown. Central Business Group member Gayle Leuschke, of Taylor Law Offices, said the event has grown over the years.
Chili judges for this year’s event included Public Works Director Steve Miller, City Administrator Jim Arndt, Fire Chief Joe Holomy, and Mayor Jeff Bloemker. Participating businesses are competing for trophies in the categories of “Judges Favorite,” “Spiciest,” and “Most Original” Chili.
The winner for “Most Original” was Village Wine and Gifts. Scrubby’s Pub won “Spiciest” and Baseball Card Connection and Culver’s tied for “Judges Choice.” Proceeds from Chili Fest go towards future Central Business Group events such as the Downtown Food Fest.
