Effingham against Highland didn’t start until close to 9 PM and after another delay in the third quarter, it turned into a marathon that didn’t get over until well after midnight. Highland was able to keep the pressure up and got the win 47-14.
Highland was led on offense by their quarterback, Marti, who had 208 yards rushing and 150 yards passing, totaling three touchdowns.
Effingham got on the board first after a Morrissey interception, Effingham drove down the field and scored on a 3 yard touchdown run by Hill to go up 7-0.
Highland answered however on their next drive with a 33 yard touchdown run by Marti. Highland would then score three more unanswered touchdowns going up 26-7. Effingham would score on a Vasquez 4 yard touchdown run with 1:40 left in the half to make it 26-14. Highland however would score one last time before the half on a 68 yard screen pass touchdown from Marti to Feldman to make it 33-14 at the half.
The second half was impacted by another lightning delay at 10:40 PM. Highland scored with 6:46 left in the game on a Rakers 10 yard touchdown run. Highland added one more score on a 83 yard run by Feldman with 3:40 left in the game.
Effingham will try to refocus as they open conference play next week against Charleston at home.
