Stewardson Lions Club Homecoming
The 59th Annual Stewardson Lions Club Homecoming is scheduled for August 21-23, 2015 at the park on West Main St. The homecoming will feature food concessions, bingo, inflatable rides, stage entertainment and tractor pulls. Activities at the park are free to the public.
Festivities kick off Friday night with the opening of the food stand at 4:30. There will be bounce house activities available from 5:30 – 10:30. Cost for the bounce houses will be $1 per ride or and unlimited armband for $5. Rides will be free for children 3 & under.
Friday night stage entertainment will feature students from Dance etc. showcasing their tumbling and dance skills at 5:30. The Battle Creek Band, with a family friendly performance containing elements of a Branson theatre, The Grand Ol’ Opry and a Texas dance hall will take the stage from 7-10 p.m. The band has been traveling central Illinois for 27 years and connects with audiences of all ages with a mix country music (both old and new), clever original songs, and oldies rock-n-roll. Each show is filled with down-home humor, fun, and lots of great country music, Band members include Wes Wheeler, Steve Reynolds, and Bill Moore.
At approximately 8:15, the C.O.W.S. group will present its annual Mr. Heifer contest that was weathered out at the annual Independence Day celebration. Come see who will take home the coveted crown on “Mr. Heifer”.
Saturday, kids’ games will be held at the ball park beginning at 4 p.m.
Saturday stage entertainment kicks off with Tress and the Mixers on stage from 6-9 p.m. Tress and the Mixers formed in 2013 and have been entertaining crowds in Effingham and surrounding counties ever since. They feature classic and current country music as well as classic rock-n-roll. Band members include Tress Funneman, Brett Britton, Vince Higgs, and Dale Walls.
The night’s entertainment will conclude with the crowning of Miss Stewardson 2015. The coronation ceremony will begin approximately 10 p.m. Following the coronation will be the raffle drawings.
In addition to activities at the park, the annual Lions Club homecoming tractor pull will be held at the club’s activity site on the West edge of the village. Admission is just $3 for adults and kids 12 & under are free.
Sunday there will be garden tractor pull held at the activity site. Weigh-in will begin at 1 p.m., with pulling beginning at 2 p.m.
