Springfield, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Public health managers in Springfield say 17 people are sick with a rare polio-like disease.
The Illinois Department of Public Health yesterday said all but one of the state’s AFM cases are in children.
AFM, or acute flaccid myelitis, is a disease that strikes children usually after a respiratory infection.
The IDPH is asking local doctors and health departments to report any cases or suspected cases immediately.
