A Mattoon woman was killed in an accident that occurred on Route 45 in Coles County shortly before 7:00pm on Saturday.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, a 22 year old female from Mattoon was traveling northbound on Route 45, approximately a quarter-mile south of CR 1800N. The female left the roadway for an unknown reason and went into the right ditch. She then over-corrected, reentering the roadway. The vehicle skid across the roadway and it entered the ditch a second time. The vehicle then struck an embankment and rolled multiple times.
The female was traveling with a 21 year old female from Mattoon, a 28 year old male from Greenup, a 1 year old male from Greenup, and a 22 year old male from Mattoon. The 21 year old female and the 22 year old male were not wearing their seat belts. During the crash, the 21 year old female was partially ejected. She was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident by the Coles County Coroner. The driver was transported to an area hospital by helicopter. She was charged with improper lane usage.
All persons listed are innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
