BOYS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
ST. ANTHONY VS. SOUTH CENTRAL
St. Anthony led 24-5 after the first quarter and never looked back and defeated South Central 86-29. St. Anthony was led by Drew Gibson who had 30 points and Alex Deters added 18. South Central was led by Trent Geiler who had 15 points. South Central is now 8-14 on the season and 1-6 in the NTC. South Central will head to Mulberry Grove on Friday. St. Anthony is now 23-3 on the season and 7-0 in the NTC. St. Anthony will play Mattoon Saturday at the Teutopolis Shootout.
EFFINGHAM VS. OLNEY
Effingham picked up their 20th win of the season defeating Olney 77-43. Effingham led 18-9 after the first quarter and 42-24 at the half. Effingham then sealed the deal with a 23-6 third quarter. Effingham was led by Grant Wolfe who had 27 points, Landon Wolfe added 19 points, and Jacob Donaldson had 10 points. Effingham is now 20-3 on the season and will head to Mt. Zion on Friday.
WINDSOR/STEW-STRAS VS. PANA
W/SS kept it close but couldn’t get the win against Pana, falling 47-40. W/SS led 12-9 after the first quarter but Pana outscored W/SS 17-6 in the second quarter to go up at the half. W/SS outscored Pana 22-21 in the second half but it wasn’t enough. W/SS was led by Chase Thies who had 12 points and Isaac Kramer and Christian Kessler who each added 10 points. W/SS is now 13-11 on the season and will face CHBC on Friday.
ST. ELMO/BROWNSTOWN VS. NOKOMIS
Nokomis defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown 51-33. SE/B only shot 31% from the field on the night. Nokomis led 12-9 after the first quarter and held SE/B to 8 points the rest of the night. Landon Feezel led SE/B with 18 points. SE/B is now 14-8 on the season and will host Altamont on Friday.
NEWTON VS. CHARLESTON
Newton led after the first quarter but couldn’t hold on falling to Charleston 63-44. Newton led 13-12 after the first quarter but Charleston took a 31-24 lead at the half. Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter. Charleston would outscore Newton 19-7 in the fourth. Newton was led by Ben Carr who had 12 points. Newton is 10-13 on the season and will head to Olney on Friday.
ALTAMONT VS. NEOGA
Altamont was able to take control with a big fourth quarter against Neoga and won 63-36. The two teams were tied after the first quarter 10-10. Altamont took the lead at the half 29-20 and after three quarters 45-34. Altamont however outscored Neoga 18-2 in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Altamont was led by Sam Childerson and Ryan Armstrong who each had 19 points. Mitchell Stevenson added 11 points and Evan Cornett had 10 points. Neoga was led by Drew Ramert who had 11 points. Neoga is now 7-18 on the season and 4-4 in the NTC. Neoga will next play at Newton on the 17th. Altamont is now 14-10 on the season and 5-0 in the NTC and will take on St. Elmo/Brownstown on Friday.
COWDEN-HERRICK/BEECHER CITY VS. PATOKA
CHBC tried to make a come back but couldn’t climb out of the hole against Patoka falling 57-46. Patoka led 20-10 after the first quarter and 34-16 at the half. CHBC outscored Patoka 21-13 in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough. Aaron Nohren led CHBC with 20 points and Trey Buzzard added 10. CHBC is now 10-11 on the season and will host Windsor/Stew-Stras on Friday.
GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
EFFINGHAM VS. TAYLORVILLE
Effingham was able to come from behind to beat Taylorville 61-58. Effingham trailed 15-7 after the first quarter and 29-21 at the half. Effingham still trailed after the third quarter 49-44. Effingham was able to outscore Taylorville 17-9 in the fourth quarter to get the win. Effingham was led by Miranda Fox who had 15 points, Skyler Schafer added 14 points, and Aly Armstrong had 10 points. Effingham is now 23-4 on the season and finishes 8-2 in the Apollo Conference, which was good for second. Effingham will finish their season on Thursday at Olney.
