Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has declared today Sheriff David Mahon Day in Illinois in honor of Sheriff Mahon being selected as the American Legion’s National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year today at their national convention in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Sheriff Mahon was recognized as the American Legion State and Regional Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and was notified last month that he was selected as the National winner as well.
The proclamation from the Governor’s Office commends Sheriff Mahon for “going above and beyond the duties expected of his position, and for demonstrating exemplary community service, as well as, professional achievement.”
Sheriff Mahon was elected to position in 2014. Prior to that, he served as an Illinois State Trooper for 25 years.
