The Brewers were able to take the opener from the Cardinals 4-3.
The Brewers scored first with a Carter home run in the second. St. Louis answered back with Díaz and Holliday RBI singles in the third to make it 2-1. The Brewers retook the lead in the sixth with solo home runs from Lucroy and Carter to make it 3-2. The Cardinals answer with a Molina solo home run in the eight to tie things back up. The Brewers won the game on a Villar RBI single with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Cardinals starter Wacha had to leave the game in the seventh inning because of a bruised heel. Before the injury Wacha gave up 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 8 and walking 2 over 6 and 2/3 innings. Cardinals closer Rosenthal took the loss falling to 2-4. Rosenthal also had to leave the game in the bottom of the ninth with a leg injury. Brewers starter Nelson gave up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 4. Jeffress got the win in relief.
