The Cubs slump continue as they have now lost 7 out of 8 games after falling to the Braves in 11 innings 4-3.
The start of the game was delayed due to rain. The game did not end until early Friday morning.
The Braves got on the board first with a Markakis two run home run in the first inning. The Cubs came back in the eighth inning with a Zobrist RBI double and a Contreras two run triple to give the Cubs a 3-2 lead. The Braves were able to score in the top of the ninth with a Markakis solo home run to tie the game. The Braves took the lead for good in the eleventh inning with a Flowers RBI single.
Cubs starter Jason Hammel left in the sixth inning with soreness in his hand. Kris Bryant left the game after stiffness in his right leg after getting hit by a pitch for the second time. The benches emptied in the ninth after Rondon threw inside to Jeff Francoeur. No punches were thrown and no one was ejected.
Alvarez got the win in relief his third of the year. Spencer Patton took the loss.
The Cubs begin a series at Pittsburgh today at 6:05.
