Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- As anticipation builds for the upcoming solar eclipse, Visit Effingham is pleased to announce the availability of eclipse glasses for safe viewing of this spectacular event on Monday, April 8, 2024. These glasses are free to the community, while supplies last.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the new moon comes between the sun and the Earth and casts the darkest part of its shadow on Earth. A full solar eclipse, known as totality, is almost as dark as night. Effingham lies directly on the northern limit of the path of totality for the 2024 eclipse. At exactly 2:03 p.m., the skies over Effingham will transform as the moon steals the sun’s spotlight for almost 40 seconds. We encourage everyone to view this eclipse with the proper eyewear, provided by Visit Effingham.
The Tourism Office will have solar eclipse glasses available starting on Tuesday, March 5th at Effingham City Hall from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, while supplies last. Limit one per person.
We hope you join us in celebrating this celestial event! For more information about events happening in Effingham during the total solar eclipse, please visit: visiteffinghamil.com/2024-eclipse/.
