Kathleen A. “Kathy” Fehrenbacher, 72 of Effingham, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 24, 2025 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Holy Cross Cemetery in Wendelin. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. In celebration of Kathy’s love for the St. Louis Cardinals, all are invited to wear red or Cardinals baseball attire to the service. Memorial donations may be given to St. Anthony Church.
Kathy was born March 19, 1953 in Newton, the daughter of Lorne B. and Mary Viola (Klingler) Fehrenbacher. Kathy graduated from Newton High School in 1971 and went on to earn her associate degree from Olney Central College. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to caring for others, working at the Mental Health Center, Mark’s Manor, Lakeland Nursing Home, and the Wetherell House.
A devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Kathy served her parish community in many ways, including volunteering to deliver communion to residents at The Glenwood. She was also an active member of the Ladies of Charity and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Kathy gave generously of her time, volunteering with the Special Olympics and assisting with C.D. of A. Bingo, always showing compassion in all she did.
Kathy is survived by her sister, Rita Massmann and sister-in-law, Bonnie Fehrenbacher, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Larry, Dale, and Max Fehrenbacher; sisters, Madeline (husband, “Fritz”) Kaufman and Frieda (husband, Jim, Sr.) Charters.
